The Almanac's Take

Two games on the board today, and the Cole-Boston matchup is the more interesting read. The Red Sox lineup carries a .766 OPS against him with five platoon advantages — the season-level signal clearly favors the hitters, not the pitcher. Duran and Yoshida each have small H2H samples (20 and 10 PA respectively), not enough to weigh heavily either way. On the other side, Teng draws a Tigers lineup sitting at .674 OPS with six platoon advantages that still flip to his favor — the label says pitcher's matchup and the number backs it. Sparse slate, but the Boston side is the obvious lean.

How to read this page

Primary read is the lineup strength block — season OPS, lineup K%, and platoon-edge count across the opposing lineup. When enough Statcast PA is on file, the lineup composite vs the pitcher's hand sits alongside it.

Career head-to-head reads as color, not edge. PA count travels with every H2H number on this page so a 4-for-7 sample looks like the small sample it is. The “notable H2H” highlight list is filtered to PA ≥ 10 for that reason.
