Junior Caminero vs Parker Messick

Platoon edge to the batter

Updated Jul 28, 2026

The Almanac's Take

Caminero carries the real edge here as a right-handed bat against Messick's left arm, and his season numbers back it up — .282/.372/.542 with a .914 OPS, 29 home runs, and a 12.5% walk rate across 457 PA. Messick is legitimately good (2.59 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 3.39 K/BB), so this isn't a free square, but his 11 homers allowed in 125 innings leave some room for the kind of pull-side damage Caminero does. The 12 head-to-head PA on record are noise — one hit in 12 at-bats tells you nothing useful, and the 89.2 mph average exit velocity in that sample shouldn't override the season-long read. Stick with the platoon and the power.
