TJ Friedl vs Michael Lorenzen
Platoon edge to the batter
Updated Jul 20, 2026
The Almanac's Take
Friedl is left-handed against a right-hander, so the platoon edge is real, but his season line makes it hard to lean on — a .184/.252/.528 slash in 202 PA is genuinely rough, and a 22.3% strikeout rate against a pitcher running a 6.8 K/9 isn't a comforting overlap. Lorenzen is hittable on paper: a 6.40 ERA, 1.77 WHIP, and 14 home runs allowed in 97 innings tells you the stuff isn't missing bats the way the platoon framing might suggest. The 11-PA head-to-head is decoration — three hits including a homer reads fine until you remember it's essentially two weeks of at-bats compressed into one line.
Career head-to-head
Career meetings in the Statcast era (2015–present). Even a clear edge over a handful of plate appearances is a small sample — read it as color, not a projection.
