The Almanac's Take

Two starters on the board today, so the choice is easy. Painter is the clear lean — projected 6.2 Ks over 6.2 IP against Arizona with a 1.4 projected ER, and the matchup grades out as about as good as it gets. The 5.74 season ERA is an ugly number to look past, but the projection model isn't buying it, and medium confidence here is still far above anything Bello offers. Bello draws an unfavorable matchup against St. Louis, projects for just 3.9 IP and 4.0 Ks, and isn't worth the exposure. Painter or fade the slate entirely.
